Geology (from Greek: γη, , "earth"; and λόγος, logos, "speech" lit. to talk about the earth) is the science and study of the solid and liquid matter that constitutes the Earth. The field of geology encompasses the study of the composition, structure, physical properties, dynamics, and history of Earth materials, and the processes by which they are formed, moved, and changed. The field is a major academic discipline, and is also important for mineral and hydrocarbon extraction, knowledge about and mitigation of natural hazards, some engineering fields, and understanding past climates and environments.

A. Check your state government website. My state has internships in its environmental offices, and it's a way to get your foot in the door, at least. Also ask your advisor or other geosciences faculty member. They probably know how to apply for internships in your area.

What are some good complimentary science courses to take with a geology major?
Q. Currently I'm attending a community college for my associates in science. My credit will transfer to a four year college where I'm going to attain my bachelors and masters in geology. What are some good complimentary courses to take with this major in mind? I'm thinking about attending University of Washington, University of Wisconsin-Madison, or University of Colorado Boulder. (I'm currently a Colorado resident and former Wisconsin resident. I have family in Washington.)
